V-moottori, commonly referred to as a V-engine in English, is an internal combustion engine whose cylinders are arranged in two banks set at an angle to each other around a common crankshaft. The cylinder banks form a V shape when viewed from the front. Most V-motors are four-stroke, though variations exist. The angle between the banks is typically 60°, 90°, or 120°, and this angle influences the engine’s length, smoothness and firing characteristics.

The configuration offers a shorter engine block than an inline arrangement of the same displacement, aiding packaging in vehicles with limited width. It also allows a compact crankshaft and can deliver strong low- and mid-range torque, which is advantageous for performance and luxury applications. However, V-motors are generally more complex and costly to manufacture than inline engines. They require additional cylinder heads, valvetrain components, and often multiple camshafts, as well as more intricate cooling and lubrication arrangements. The dual banks can complicate exhaust and intake routing and may result in a taller engine profile.

Common variants include V6, V8, and V12 configurations, as well as V-twins in motorcycles and smaller V engines in some industrial uses. Applications span automobiles, motorcycles, aircraft, and industrial power units. In automotive practice, the V arrangement has become a staple for high-performance and luxury models, with modern examples incorporating technologies such as turbocharging, direct injection, variable valve timing, and advanced electronic control.

Historically, V engines emerged in the early 20th century and became widely adopted for their packaging advantages and strong performance.
