Vinul

Vinul is the Romanian term for “the wine” and refers to wine in general. Globally, wine is an alcoholic beverage produced by fermenting grape juice. The practice dates back thousands of years and today people produce wine in a broad range of styles, flavors, and traditions, shaped by grape varieties, climate, soil, and winemaking techniques.

Production begins with selecting and crushing grapes, followed by fermentation in which yeast converts sugars into alcohol and aroma compounds. White wines typically ferment without grape skins, while red and rosé wines gain color, tannins, and structure from skin contact. After fermentation, wine may be aged in stainless steel, oak, or other vessels. Sparkling wines undergo secondary carbonation or a traditional méthode, and fortified wines receive additional spirits to increase alcohol content and alter flavor.

Wine is commonly categorized by color (red, white, rosé) and style (still, sparkling, fortified). Dryness ranges from bone-dry to very sweet, and flavor profiles are influenced by grape variety, terroir, and winemaking choices. Regions around the world claim distinctive identities, with numerous appellations, blends, and traditional methods contributing to regional character and reputation.

Serving and storage considerations include temperature, light exposure, and aeration. Red wines are often served slightly warmer than whites; sparkling wines are typically chilled. Proper aging can enhance complexity, but most wines are enjoyed within a few years of release. Wine’s cultural role encompasses cuisine, celebrations, and social rituals.
