Verkkoviive
Verkkoviive is a Finnish term that can be translated as “net line” or more commonly “grid line.” In Finnish technical language it refers to a line that forms part of a lattice or mesh overlay on an image, map, drawing, or design. The concept is associated with alignment, scaling, and spatial referencing because a grid provides a reference framework for positioning elements or features. The term is used in various fields, including computer-aided design (CAD), geographic information systems (GIS), architecture, and textile or graphic design. In many Finnish texts, however, the more common terms are ruudukon viivat or ruudukko for grid or grid lines, and verkko for a net or mesh in a broader sense. Verkkoviive may describe both regular, evenly spaced lines and more irregular mesh patterns depending on the context.
Etymology: Verkkoviive derives from verkk- meaning “net” or “grid” and viiva meaning “line,” indicating a line
Usage context: In digital imaging and CAD, grid lines help with alignment and measurement; in GIS, grid
