Uchiteley is a traditional Japanese technique used primarily in the art of *kendo*, *iaido*, and other martial arts disciplines. The term derives from the Japanese words *uchi* (打ち), meaning "strike," and *te* (手), meaning "hand," literally translating to "hand strike." It refers to the precise execution of a strike with the *shinai* (bamboo sword) or *katana* (samurai sword) during practice or competition.

In kendo, uchiteley involves delivering controlled, accurate strikes to the opponent's *kake* (target areas), which include the head (*men*), wrists (*kote*), and body (*do*). The technique emphasizes proper posture, footwork, and timing to ensure an effective and fair strike. Judges evaluate uchiteley based on criteria such as *kime* (decision), *maai* (distance), and *tsubazeriai* (correct striking posture).

The concept extends beyond kendo, influencing other Japanese martial arts like *iaido*, where uchiteley applies to swift, decisive cuts during sword draws. Proper uchiteley is essential for both offensive and defensive maneuvers, as it ensures clarity and fairness in sparring (*keiko*) and competition (*shiai*).
