USMLE
USMLE stands for the United States Medical Licensing Examination. It is a multi-step examination used to assess readiness for medical licensure in the United States. The exam is administered by the National Board of Medical Examiners (NBME) and the Federation of State Medical Boards (FSMB). Historically it consisted of three main steps: Step 1, Step 2 CK, and Step 3; a hands-on Clinical Skills component known as Step 2 CS existed but was discontinued in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic and is no longer offered. The USMLE is required for medical licensure in most U.S. states and is also taken by many international medical graduates seeking residency slots or licensure.
