It is used to express a wish, a blessing, or a request that something may be true or occur, roughly equivalent to “may it be so” or “let it be.” In everyday Finnish, this optative function is usually conveyed with other constructions such as olkoon or with more direct expressions, but täköön retains a place in historical, religious, or ceremonial writing.
