Tähdenlennot

Tähdenlennot, which translates to "shooting stars" or "falling stars" in English, are a captivating celestial phenomenon that can be observed on Earth. They are not actual stars that are falling from the sky, but rather small particles of dust and rock, often no larger than a grain of sand, that enter the Earth's atmosphere at extremely high speeds. As these particles collide with the gases in our atmosphere, they heat up due to friction and vaporize, creating a brief, bright streak of light that we perceive as a shooting star.

These celestial events are a common occurrence, with thousands of them happening every day, though most are too faint to be seen and many occur during daylight hours. When Earth passes through a denser region of space debris, such as the trail left behind by a comet, we experience a meteor shower, where a significantly larger number of shooting stars are visible over a short period. Popular meteor showers include the Perseids in August and the Geminids in December, which often produce spectacular displays.
