August

August is the eighth month of the Gregorian calendar and has 31 days. It was named after Augustus, the first Roman emperor. The month was originally called Sextilis in the Julian calendar because it was the sixth month in the older Roman calendar. In 8 BCE, the Roman Senate renamed the month to August in honor of Augustus.

In the Northern Hemisphere, August typically marks the height of summer and is often associated with hot weather and vacation season. In the Southern Hemisphere, it is mid-winter. The month ends a transition from summer to early autumn in many regions.

Zodiac signs during August are Leo up to about the 22nd and Virgo from roughly the 23rd onward. The name August is also used as a given name in some cultures, and the term Augustan relates to the era of Augustus.
