Tunturiylängöt

Tunturiylängöt, often translated as fell plateaus or fell uplands, are a distinctive physiographic region found in northern Finland and parts of Scandinavia. These are not sharp mountain peaks but rather broad, relatively flat expanses at high elevations, characterized by rounded hills and vast, treeless areas. The geological formation of these plateaus is attributed to ancient erosion processes that have smoothed and lowered once higher mountainous regions over millions of years.

The landscape of the tunturiylängöt is dominated by tundra vegetation, including mosses, lichens, grasses, and dwarf shrubs, adapted to the harsh Arctic or sub-Arctic climate. Summers are short and cool, while winters are long, cold, and snowy, often with strong winds.
