Tresoren

Tresoren, in German, refers to safes or vaults—secure enclosures designed to protect valuables from theft, fire, moisture, and unauthorized access. They are used in homes, offices, banks, and hotels. Safes can be free-standing units or built into walls or floors and are typically anchored to prevent removal by intruders. Common contents include cash, jewelry, documents, and digital media.

Most safes combine a resistant metal body with a secure door that houses a locking mechanism. Locks may be mechanical combination locks, key-operated locks, electronic keypads, or biometric systems. Modern safes include relocking devices that trigger if the lock is attacked, and bolting hardware to resist prying. Interiors may feature shelves, drawers, and padded compartments; seals and insulation protect against fire and humidity.

Types and standards: Fire-resistant safes are tested to maintain a defined interior temperature for a period, while burglary-resistant safes are graded for resistance against forced entry. Examples include small home safes, wall or floor safes, data safes for media, and hotel safes. International and national standards such as EN 1143-1 and EN 1047-1 in Europe, and UL ratings in North America, guide performance classifications. Choice depends on risk, value, and installation constraints.
