Key areas include vehicle technology (propulsion, energy systems, aerodynamics, safety systems), traffic and transport planning (network design, demand forecasting, public transit planning, active transport), and infrastructure engineering (roads, railways, airports, ports), with attention to maintenance and resilience. Data-driven methods such as traffic flow theory, simulation, optimization, GIS, and intelligent transportation systems play a central role in analysis and decision making.

Education and research: universities offer bachelor’s and master’s programs in transportteknik or related fields, with research centers addressing sustainable mobility, electrification and alternative propulsion, autonomous and connected vehicles, logistics, and policy analysis. The field emphasizes multidisciplinary collaboration to balance efficiency, safety, cost, and environmental impact.
