Transistorisiert

Transistorisiert is an adjective used to describe electronic equipment or circuits that have been designed to use transistors instead of vacuum tubes or, more generally, to be based on transistor technology. The term is commonly used in German-language sources to denote a transition in devices and systems from tube-based to transistor-based design, often highlighting improvements in size, weight, power consumption and reliability.

After the invention of the transistor in 1947, practical transistorized devices began appearing in the early 1950s. Consumer electronics such as portable radios and hearing aids popularized transistor technology; in 1954, the Regency TR-1 is frequently cited as one of the first commercially produced transistor radios. In computing and military applications, transistorized circuits enabled smaller, more rugged equipment and laid the groundwork for later integrated circuits. The term persists in historical and technical descriptions to contrast transistor-based designs with earlier vacuum-tube technology.

Technically, transistorization required rethinking of circuit design, biasing, and packaging; transistors offered advantages in size, weight and efficiency but initial devices faced reliability and manufacture challenges. Over time, improvements in transistor materials and manufacturing, and the advent of integrated circuits in the late 1950s and 1960s, accelerated the shift away from discrete transistors to dense ICs, completing the broader move from valve to transistor technology. Today, "transistorisiert" is primarily a historical descriptor, used to refer to older equipment or to describe its modernization into transistor-based operation.
