Tootmisjuht

Tootmisjuht, or production manager, is a management role in manufacturing responsible for planning, organizing, directing and controlling production operations to meet quality, delivery, and cost targets. They coordinate schedules, determine capacity, allocate resources, and optimize workflow on the shop floor, balancing efficiency with safety and product specifications. The tootmisjuht acts as a link between senior management and production staff, translating strategic goals into actionable plans and monitoring day-to-day performance.

Responsibilities include developing production plans and schedules; overseeing staffing, shift patterns, and team leads; ensuring smooth operation of machinery and processes; implementing process improvements and lean initiatives; managing maintenance and uptime; controlling costs and inventories; ensuring quality compliance and safety standards; coordinating with procurement, logistics, and quality assurance; and reporting performance metrics to management.

Qualifications commonly include a higher education degree in industrial engineering, manufacturing management, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience. Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills are essential, as are analytical abilities and familiarity with production planning software (ERP/MRP, MES) and data analysis. Knowledge of lean manufacturing, Six Sigma principles, and quality standards (ISO 9001) is often advantageous.

Work environments are typically manufacturing plants with possible shifts. The tootmisjuht may start as a line supervisor or production planner and progress to plant or operations manager, with further advancement to higher executive roles. The position requires collaboration across departments and a focus on safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
