Toneelpys

Toneelpys is a constructed tonal language described in conlang communities and certain speculative-fiction worlds. It is presented as a fully developed linguistic system with a focus on how pitch and contour interact with meaning. The language is commonly cited as having a compact phonology, a relatively transparent syllable structure, and an analytic approach to grammar. It is used by writers and hobbyists to explore how tone can shape syntax, morphology, and discourse in a fictional setting.

Phonology and tone are central to Toneelpys. The system is said to employ three level tones—high, mid, and low—along with contour tones such as rising and falling. Tones can distinguish lexical items and sentence types, and tone sandhi rules are described to apply across phrase boundaries. The phoneme inventory is described as deliberately lean, enabling learners to focus on tonal patterns rather than a large consonant or vowel set. The language is primarily studied in hobbyist circles, used in fan-fiction, and analyzed as a case study in how tonal systems can be integrated with simple syntactic frameworks.
