Termoformada

Termoformada is a manufacturing process used to shape plastic materials. It involves heating a plastic sheet until it becomes pliable and then forming it over a mold. Once the plastic cools and solidifies, it retains the shape of the mold. This technique is widely employed for producing a diverse range of products, from packaging for food and consumer goods to automotive parts and medical devices.

The thermoforming process typically begins with a flat sheet of thermoplastic. This sheet is heated uniformly to a specific temperature, making it soft and malleable. Various heating methods can be used, including radiant heaters or convection ovens. Once the desired temperature is reached, the heated plastic sheet is stretched over or into a mold. The mold can be a male mold, where the plastic is drawn over its exterior, or a female mold, where the plastic is drawn into its cavity.

After the plastic is in contact with the mold, a vacuum or pressure is often applied to ensure the plastic conforms precisely to the mold's contours. This helps to create detailed shapes and thin wall sections. Once the plastic has cooled sufficiently and hardened, it is removed from the mold. The excess material, known as flash, is then trimmed away. The resulting product is a rigid, shaped plastic component.

The advantages of thermoforming include its relatively low tooling costs compared to injection molding, its ability to produce large parts, and its efficient production speed for many applications. It is a versatile process suitable for both high-volume production runs and smaller custom orders.
