Színkezelési is a term used in Hungarian to refer to the technical processes and systems involved in managing color across various media, from digital displays to printed materials. The practice aims to preserve the intended appearance of colors when an image is reproduced in different devices or formats. Historically, color reproduction was largely manual, relying on artists and printers to approximate hues. The advent of digital imaging and printing technologies in the late twentieth century necessitated more systematic approaches.

Central to színkezelési is the concept of color spaces—mathematical models that define ranges of colors. Common spaces include sRGB for monitors, Adobe RGB for high‑dynamic‑range printing, and ProPhoto RGB for professional photography. Devices are matched to these spaces through calibration and profiling. An ICC (International Color Consortium) profile, for example, records a device’s color response, allowing software to transform colors accurately between devices.

Color management workflows typically involve: device profiling, color space conversion, and rendering intent selection, which determines how out‑of‑gamut colors are handled. Rendering intents include perceptual, relative colorimetric, saturation, and absolute colorimetric, each suited to different applications.
