Suusamyr

Suusamyr is a mountain valley located in the Tian Shan mountain range in Kyrgyzstan. It is situated in the Suusamyr Valley district of the Chüy Region, approximately 100 kilometers west of Bishkek, the capital city. The valley is characterized by its wide, open pastures, rolling hills, and is surrounded by high mountain peaks. It is a popular destination for its natural beauty and opportunities for outdoor activities.

The elevation of the Suusamyr Valley ranges from about 2,000 to 3,000 meters above sea level. The area experiences a continental climate with cold, long winters and short, warm summers. The fertile grasslands of the valley are ideal for traditional nomadic pastoralism, and it is known for its sheep and horse breeding. Many Kyrgyz families still practice a semi-nomadic lifestyle, moving their livestock to the higher pastures during the summer months.

Suusamyr is particularly renowned for its opportunities for trekking, horseback riding, and paragliding. The vast open spaces and favorable wind conditions attract paragliders from around the world. The valley is also a significant location for the annual World Nomad Games, an international sporting and cultural event that celebrates traditional nomadic sports and heritage. The natural landscape provides a dramatic backdrop for these events. Access to the valley is typically via a scenic mountain road, which can be challenging in certain conditions.
