Suorituskaarta

Suorituskaarta is a concept used in Finnish education to describe a study progress map or performance chart. It is a document or tool intended to document and plan a student's studies by mapping completed courses, accumulated credits, and achieved learning outcomes against the requirements of a degree or qualification.

Purpose and use

Institutions use a suorituskaarta to visualize progress, identify gaps, and guide advising discussions. It helps students plan electives, assess required competencies, and prepare for graduation or transfer. The map is used in degree programs at universities, universities of applied sciences, and in some vocational education contexts. It supports transparency in how a student’s work aligns with curriculum goals.

A suorituskaarta typically includes student and program identifiers; a list of completed courses or modules with credits and, where available, grades; mapped learning outcomes or competencies; required total credits and their distribution by semester or module; a proposed schedule for remaining courses; and notes on exemptions, prior learning recognition, or bridging modules.

Relation to other documents

Suorituskaarta is related to but distinct from opintosuoritusote (academic transcript). The transcript records actual completed work; the suorituskaarta emphasizes planning and mapping toward degree requirements and learning outcomes. It may be integrated with curriculum maps and degree plans.

Variations and terminology

Not all institutions use the term, and some refer to similar concepts as opintosuunnitelma, curriculummap, or oppimissuunnitelma.
