Støbningsprocessen, or the casting process, is a manufacturing method used to create objects by pouring molten material into a mold. This material can be metal, plastic, glass, or even concrete. The mold contains a hollow cavity shaped like the desired object, and once the molten material cools and solidifies, it takes on the form of the mold.

The process typically begins with the creation of a mold. Molds can be made from various materials, such as sand, metal, plaster, or silicone, depending on the material being cast and the required precision. For metals, sand casting is a common and cost-effective method, where a sand mold is formed around a pattern of the desired object. For higher precision or more intricate designs, permanent molds made of metal are often used.

Once the mold is ready, the casting material is heated until it melts. This molten material is then carefully poured or injected into the mold cavity. Gravity can be used for pouring, or pressure can be applied to ensure the material fills every part of the mold, especially in processes like die casting. After filling, the material is allowed to cool and harden. The cooling rate can significantly affect the final properties of the cast object.

Finally, the solidified object is removed from the mold. This is known as the casting's release. Depending on the casting method and material, further finishing processes like trimming excess material, grinding, polishing, or heat treatment may be required to achieve the final product's desired dimensions and surface finish.
