Spondüliiti

Spondüliiti refers to inflammation of the vertebrae. It is a general term and can be caused by various underlying conditions. One common cause is ankylosing spondylitis, a chronic inflammatory disease that primarily affects the spine. Other forms of spondylitis can be associated with infections, such as tuberculosis of the spine (Pott's disease), or other inflammatory arthropathies.

Symptoms of spondüliiti can vary depending on the cause but often include back pain and stiffness, particularly in the morning. This pain may improve with activity and worsen with rest. In some cases, the inflammation can spread to other joints, such as the hips, shoulders, or ribs, leading to pain and reduced mobility in those areas. Systemic symptoms like fatigue, fever, or weight loss may also be present, especially if an infection is involved.

Diagnosis typically involves a combination of medical history, physical examination, imaging studies like X-rays and MRI, and blood tests to identify inflammatory markers or specific disease indicators. Treatment aims to manage the underlying cause, reduce inflammation, alleviate pain, and maintain spinal mobility. This may include medications such as nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs (DMARDs), or biologics. Physical therapy is crucial for preserving function and improving posture. Early diagnosis and appropriate management are important to prevent long-term complications like spinal fusion or deformity.
