Speilplanet is a term used in speculative discussions to describe a hypothetical planet with a mirror-like surface. The concept envisions a world whose surface is extremely reflective, producing high albedo and pronounced specular reflections. The name is used mainly in thought experiments about exoplanet detection and atmospheric studies, and it appears in science fiction and theoretical discussions rather than as an established astronomical object.

Physical characteristics proposed for a speilplanet include polished ice, metallic frost, or engineered reflective coatings on the surface. An atmosphere, if present, would likely be thin or absent to preserve strong specular effects. The geometric albedo could be very high, approaching unity under ideal conditions, though actual values would depend on surface roughness and viewing geometry. The defining feature is that the surface can reflect light in a directed manner, creating brief, bright glints when the observer, planet, and star align in favorable angles.

Observational implications are a central focus of the concept. Speilplanet would produce distinctive photometric signatures, such as abrupt, transient brightenings in light curves rather than the smooth variations typical of many planets. Spectral analyses might be dominated by reflected starlight, complicating assessments of surface composition or atmospheric properties. Direct imaging would face challenges from glare, and transit signals could be altered by the reflective surface, potentially affecting depth and shape measurements.
