Spannseile
Spannseile are cables used to transmit tensile forces in structural and mechanical systems. They resist axial loads and are designed to remain in tension, not to bear compression. They are used where high strength, fatigue resistance and flexibility are required, from civil engineering to lifting gear.
Construction: Most Spannseile are steel wire ropes: many steel strands twisted around a central core to form
Materials: Steel wire ropes with galvanizing or stainless coating; synthetic fiber ropes are used where weight
Applications: Spannseile are used as stay or guy cables in cable-stayed bridges, to stabilize towers, in cranes
Maintenance and safety: Regular inspection for corrosion, worn or broken wires, abrasion and fatigue is essential.
Standards: European and international standards govern materials, dimensions, testing and installation of Spannseile and wire ropes
