Sorteerides

Sorteerides, literally “sorting rides” in Dutch, is a term used to describe systems and processes that sort or route items or people within a facility or attraction to improve efficiency, safety, and throughput. The term is not tied to a single standardized technology but to a class of sorting mechanisms deployed in several sectors, including logistics, manufacturing, and entertainment.

In logistics and warehousing, sorteerde lines use sensors, scanners, and automated diverting gates on conveyors to separate parcels or pallets by destination, customer, or priority. Items may carry barcodes or RFID tags; a central controller coordinates sorting decisions and integrates with warehouse management software. Benefits include higher throughput, lower error rates, and reduced labor costs. Key performance indicators include sort accuracy and lines-per-hour.

In amusement parks and entertainment venues, sorting concepts are used to balance ride loading and comply with safety rules. Entrances may direct riders to different loading positions based on height, weight, or age, while ride cars or queues may be partitioned to maintain balance and loading speed. These systems combine sensors, weighing devices, simple automation, and staff oversight.

In other contexts such as large events or transit hubs, sorting principles appear in crowd management to channel flows toward different gates, lanes, or platforms, reducing bottlenecks.
