Somearvo

Somearvo is a fictional city-state located in the central archipelago of the Xandrian Sea. It covers about 1,200 square kilometers, with the capital Solhaven on the main island. The coastline comprises natural harbors and cliffs; the climate is temperate maritime with mild winters and cool summers.

The name Somearvo derives from the local Somear language, combining elements meaning sea and light, though etymology is debated among scholars.

Somearvo originated as a medieval trading outpost established in the 12th century by merchants from nearby islands. It achieved de facto independence in the 15th century and formal independence through the Treaty of Lysa in 1452. It joined regional trade alliances in 1789 and adopted a modern constitution in 1992.

Somearvo is a constitutional republic with a president as head of state and a prime minister as head of government. The unicameral Assembly of 55 members is elected to four-year terms. The judiciary is independent, with an ombudsman and anti-corruption commission.

The economy centers on maritime services and port logistics at the Harbor of Solace, financial services, tourism, and renewable energy, including offshore wind and tidal projects. Major trade partners include neighboring archipelagos and mainland neighbors.

The population is about 1.9 million. Official language is Somearvan; English is widely used in business and government. The society is religiously diverse, with a high literacy rate and a strong service-sector workforce.

Maritime heritage shapes culture, with the annual Festival of Tides. Architecture blends stone and timber. Public transport relies on ferries, a light-rail line, and bus networks. Higher education institutions include the University of Solhaven and the Maritime Institute.
