Skärmdensitet

Skärmdensitet, often referred to as Pixels Per Inch (PPI) or Dots Per Inch (DPI) in a similar context, is a measure of the number of pixels that fit into a linear inch of a digital display. It quantifies how sharp and detailed an image or text appears on a screen. A higher skärmdensitet means that more pixels are packed into the same physical area, resulting in a smoother and less pixelated appearance.

The skärmdensitet of a display is determined by its resolution and its physical size. For example, a small smartphone screen with a high resolution will typically have a much higher skärmdensitet than a large computer monitor with the same resolution. This is why high-end smartphones often boast incredibly sharp displays, even though their screens are relatively small.

A higher skärmdensitet is generally desirable as it leads to a better viewing experience, especially for tasks involving fine detail, such as reading text, viewing photographs, or playing games. Conversely, a low skärmdensitet can result in text appearing jagged and images lacking in detail, making the display look less refined. When comparing displays, skärmdensitet is a crucial factor to consider alongside resolution and screen size.
