Shtatzënisë, commonly referred to as pregnancy, is the period during which a fetus develops inside a woman's body. It begins with fertilization, the fusion of a sperm and an egg, typically occurring in the fallopian tube. The fertilized egg then travels to the uterus and implants in the uterine wall, marking the beginning of gestation.

Pregnancy is generally divided into three trimesters, each spanning approximately three months. The first trimester is characterized by rapid embryonic development, organogenesis, and the formation of the placenta. The second trimester sees significant fetal growth and maturation, with the mother often experiencing a reduction in early pregnancy symptoms. In the third trimester, the fetus continues to grow, and the mother prepares for labor and delivery.

Throughout pregnancy, a woman's body undergoes numerous physiological changes to support the developing fetus. These can include hormonal shifts, weight gain, and alterations in various bodily systems. Regular prenatal care is essential for monitoring the health of both the mother and the fetus, identifying potential complications, and providing guidance on nutrition, lifestyle, and preparation for childbirth.

The duration of a full-term pregnancy is typically around 40 weeks, measured from the first day of the woman's last menstrual period. At the end of pregnancy, labor and delivery occur, resulting in the birth of the baby. Postpartum is the period following childbirth, during which the mother's body recovers and adapts to its non-pregnant state.
