Scribblekomplekser are structured clusters of scribble motifs recognized as stable units in early graphic development. The term combines the English word scribble with the Swedish plural-komplexer; used in Nordic research to denote complexes of marks that function as primitive drawing units.

A typical scribblekomplex comprises a small set of strokes arranged within a bounded area, often with a central motif such as a loop or arc, and a surrounding frame of lines that create balance. They are characterized by recurring configurations, such as a loop-plus-stroke, a spiral, or a connected zigzag pattern, and by predictable local relationships of distance, angle, and overlap.

Development and interpretation: They appear in children's drawings from ages 2-4 and persist with increasing complexity through age 6-7. Their emergence reflects motor control development, perceptual organization, and early symbol use. Cross-cultural studies show similar patterns but with cultural variation in preferred motifs.
