Scoringmethoden, or scoring methods, are techniques used to assign numerical scores to entities based on observed characteristics. The goal is to summarize complex information into a single, comparable value that can support decision making, prioritization, and risk assessment. Scoring methods are widely used in finance, marketing, healthcare, and operations.

Methods can be grouped into rule-based scoring, statistical scoring, and machine learning scoring. Rule-based scoring relies on expert-defined weights or points assigned to feature values. Statistical scoring uses models such as logistic regression to estimate the probability of a target event and translates it into a score. Machine learning scoring employs algorithms such as decision trees, random forests, gradient boosting, and neural networks to generate scores, often with calibration steps to align predicted probabilities with observed frequencies.

A common practical form is the scorecard, which maps input features to a total score and often segments the population into risk bands. Scoring functions, by contrast, may produce a continuous score without explicit categorization. Evaluation and governance are essential: discriminatory power is measured by AUC/ROC, Gini, or KS; calibration assesses alignment between predicted and observed frequencies; ongoing validation and monitoring support regulatory compliance and model risk management. Important considerations include data quality, feature engineering, interpretability, fairness, and transparency. Properly implemented, scoringmethoden provide objective, scalable support for decisions that would be difficult to compare using raw data alone.
