Scenemanagement is the planning, coordination, and execution of scenes across live performance, film, television, and other staged media. It aims to ensure narrative coherence, timely transitions, safety, and efficient use of resources within the constraints of schedule and budget. The role and emphasis vary by medium but share a core function: organizing how a scene is staged, shot, or performed from concept through execution.

In live theatre, scenemanagement centers on the stage manager, who maintains the prompt book, calls cues for lighting, sound, and scenery, and coordinates performers and crew during rehearsals and performances. They oversee scene changes, prop handling, safety protocols, and the overall run of the show, acting as the primary liaison among directors, designers, actors, and technicians.

In film and television, scenemanagement involves script supervision and production management. The script supervisor tracks continuity of actors, props, wardrobe, and set dressing across takes; the assistant director manages the shooting schedule, call sheets, and on-set logistics; the production manager handles budgeting and resource allocation. Scene planning includes script breakdowns, shot lists or beat sheets, blocking notes, and coverage planning.

Typical processes include pre-production (script breakdown, creation of scene lists, scheduling), production (blocking and cueing, on-set communication, intercom or headset systems), and post-production (logs and notes for continuity and performance history). Tools commonly used include prompt books, cue sheets, call sheets, continuity logs, and various production software for scheduling and tracking.
