SFXvirtalähteet, also known as SFX power supply units (PSUs), are compact power supplies designed for small form factor (SFF) computer cases. Their small dimensions make them ideal for building highly portable or space-saving desktop computers. SFX PSUs typically measure 125mm wide, 100mm deep, and 63.5mm high.

These power supplies are available in various wattage ratings, catering to different system needs. Lower wattage SFX PSUs are suitable for basic office or home theater PCs, while higher wattage units can support more demanding gaming or workstation builds, often featuring dedicated graphics cards. The efficiency rating of SFX PSUs is also a key consideration, with 80 Plus certifications (Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Titanium) indicating their energy efficiency.

Compared to standard ATX power supplies, SFX PSUs are significantly smaller, allowing them to fit into the restricted spaces of SFF cases. This size difference is their primary advantage. However, this compactness can sometimes lead to higher noise levels due to smaller, faster-spinning fans. Some higher-end SFX PSUs incorporate semi-passive or fully passive fan modes to mitigate this.

When selecting an SFX PSU, it's important to consider the total power requirements of the components in the SFF build, including the CPU, GPU, and any additional peripherals. Modularity is also a feature found in some SFX PSUs, allowing users to attach only the necessary cables, further aiding in cable management within a tight case.
