SANSwitches
SANSwitches are network devices that interconnect servers and storage devices within a storage area network. They provide dedicated, high-bandwidth, low-latency connectivity, enabling fabric-level communication between host ports and storage ports. The switches operate as central components of Fibre Channel–based or Ethernet-based storage fabrics and support features such as zoning, fabric authentication, multipath I/O, and quality of service to control access and performance.
Most SANSwitches are Fibre Channel switches that forward FC frames across a switched fabric. Some switches
Design approaches for SANSwitches range from fixed-configuration to modular systems, with scalable fabrics, redundant supervisors, and
Management and operations are performed through command-line interfaces or web-based consoles, and switches offer monitoring, logging,
Common use cases include large enterprises with shared storage, virtualization environments, database workloads, and backup or
