Risklogistics refers to the integration of risk management practices with logistics and supply chain activities to anticipate, quantify, and mitigate disruptions across transportation, warehousing, and distribution networks. It treats risk as an intrinsic element of logistics planning, aiming to improve resilience, continuity, and performance under uncertainty.

Key activities in risklogistics include risk identification and assessment (mapping suppliers, routes, modes, and critical nodes), development of mitigation strategies (inventory buffers, alternate suppliers, nearshoring, multi-modal options, and agile routing), and robust response and recovery planning (crisis management, rerouting, and post-disruption recovery). Methods range from qualitative approaches such as risk registers and scenario planning to quantitative tools like fault tree analysis and Monte Carlo simulations, often coupled with risk-adjusted performance metrics.

Technology and data play a central role, with inputs from ERP, WMS, TMS, weather and geopolitical feeds, and real-time sensing. Advanced analytics, artificial intelligence, and network optimization support proactive risk monitoring, anomaly detection, and adaptive decision-making. Typical outputs include resilience scores, risk maps, and contingency plans that guide inventory policies, supplier diversification, and network design.

Applications span resilient network design, contingency logistics, supplier risk management, and disruption response. Challenges include data quality and interoperability, model uncertainty, cost trade-offs, and governance. While not always standardized, risklogistics is commonly viewed as a subfield of supply chain risk management or resilience engineering, bridging operations and strategic planning to reduce the impact of disruptions.
