Risikoindex

Risikoindex is a quantitative composite measure that summarizes the risk level of a system, process, or situation by aggregating multiple risk factors into a single score. It is used across domains to support prioritization, monitoring, and decision making.

Construction typically involves identifying factors that represent the probability of an adverse event (likelihood) and the potential impact if it occurs (severity). Each factor is measured on a common scale and often normalized to a standard range, such as 0 to 100. Weights reflect the relative importance of factors, and the final index is commonly calculated as a weighted sum or, in some cases, a multiplicative combination to capture interactions between factors.

Data for a risikoindex may come from historical records, current observations, expert judgments, simulations, or survey methods. Data quality and coverage are crucial, as missing or biased inputs can distort the result. The index is typically updated periodically to reflect new information and changing conditions.

Applications of a risikoindex are wide: in banking and finance to assess credit or market risk, in insurance to estimate exposure, in operations and safety to flag high-risk processes, in information technology and cybersecurity to gauge threat levels, in public health to quantify disease risk, and in project management to track overall project risk.

Interpretation centers on relative and absolute risk levels. Higher scores indicate greater risk, and predefined thresholds categorize risk into bands such as low, medium, high, or critical. Limitations include model risk, subjectivity in factor selection and weighting, data quality, and the sometimes dynamic nature of risk that can outpace the index without regular recalibration.
