Rezetis

Rezetis is a genus of fungi belonging to the family Sclerodermataceae. These fungi are characterized by their dark, leathery, and often globose fruiting bodies, known as basidiocarps. The outer layer of the basidiocarp, the peridium, is typically thick and tough, sometimes with a textured surface. When mature, the peridium often splits open to reveal a powdery mass of spores. The spore print of Rezetis is generally dark brown to black.

Species within the Rezetis genus are saprophytic, meaning they obtain nutrients from dead organic matter. They are commonly found in terrestrial environments, often associated with soil and leaf litter in forests and woodlands. The distribution of Rezetis species varies geographically, with some found in temperate regions while others inhabit more tropical climates.

The ecological role of Rezetis is primarily as decomposers, contributing to nutrient cycling in ecosystems. While some related fungi in the Sclerodermataceae family are known for their ectomycorrhizal associations with trees, the precise ecological interactions of many Rezetis species are still under investigation.
