In everyday usage, it describes methods that prioritize repairing harm, restoring relationships, or reconstructing function, rather than punitive isolation.

In justice, restorative justice (justiça restaurativa) is a framework within criminal and community systems that centers victims, offenders, and the community in processes designed to repair the harm caused by wrongdoing. Core elements include accountability, voluntary participation, inclusive dialogue, and a focus on repair rather than punishment.
