Reproduktionsalter refers to the period in a person's life when they are biologically capable of reproduction. For females, this period is generally associated with their fertile years, typically beginning with menarche (the first menstrual period) and ending with menopause. Menarche usually occurs in early to mid-adolescence, while menopause typically begins in the late 40s or early 50s. During this time, a female's ovaries release eggs and her body undergoes hormonal changes that can support pregnancy.

For males, the reproductive capacity is generally considered to be a longer period. While sperm production begins at puberty, which is similar in timing to female menarche, the ability to produce viable sperm continues for a much longer duration, often well into old age, though sperm quality and quantity may decline over time. The concept of a distinct "end" to male fertility, analogous to female menopause, is not as clearly defined biologically.

Factors influencing the reproductive age can include genetics, environmental influences, health status, lifestyle choices, and societal factors. While the biological window for reproduction exists, the decision to have children and the actual timing of reproduction are influenced by a complex interplay of personal, social, economic, and cultural considerations. The term "reproductive age" is a biological concept and does not dictate when individuals should or should not have children.
