Rekompilering

Rekompilering is a term often encountered in software development and computing. It refers to the process of taking source code, which is written in a human-readable programming language, and translating it into machine code or another form that a computer can directly execute. This translation is performed by a program called a compiler.

The need for rekompilering arises when changes are made to the source code. After a programmer modifies the code, the existing compiled version is no longer up-to-date. Therefore, the compiler must be run again on the modified source code to produce a new executable or object file. This ensures that the software reflects the latest changes and bug fixes.

In some contexts, rekompilering might also refer to the process of adapting software to run on a different operating system, hardware architecture, or with a different set of dependencies. This can be a more complex undertaking than a simple recompilation after code changes, as it might involve adjusting the source code itself to be compatible with the new environment.

The term can also be used more broadly to describe a thorough review and re-evaluation of something, not just limited to code. For instance, a policy or a strategy might be said to undergo "rekompilering" if it is revisited, analyzed, and potentially rewritten from scratch to address new circumstances or objectives. However, its primary and most common usage remains within the realm of software compilation.
