Redoxvariable
Redoxvariable is a term used to describe a variable that tracks the redox state of a chemical, biological, or environmental system. It is not a single standardized quantity, but rather a generic label for any metric that summarizes the tendency of a system to gain or lose electrons. In many contexts the redoxvariable is closely related to or represented by the redox potential, also known as Eh, or by a dimensionless redox index derived from concentrations of redox-active species.
In practice, a redoxvariable can be measured or inferred from experimental data. When expressed as a redox
Fields that use redoxvariable include biochemistry, environmental science, and soil and water chemistry. It helps assess
