Rashguards

A rashguard is a close-fitting, elastic garment typically made from a blend of nylon and spandex or polyester and spandex. It is designed to protect the skin from a variety of environmental factors and physical activities. The name "rashguard" derives from its primary function of preventing rashes caused by friction or irritants.

Rashguards are commonly worn by surfers, divers, swimmers, and other water sports enthusiasts. In these contexts, they provide protection against the abrasive effects of surfboards, wetsuit chafing, and prolonged exposure to saltwater. They also offer a degree of insulation in cooler water temperatures, although they are not a substitute for a wetsuit.

Beyond water sports, rashguards are used in various athletic pursuits. They can be worn under athletic gear to reduce chafing from equipment or as a standalone top for activities like martial arts, wrestling, or jiu-jitsu. Their moisture-wicking properties help keep the wearer dry and comfortable during strenuous exercise.

Many rashguards are rated with an Ultraviolet Protection Factor (UPF), indicating the level of protection they offer against harmful ultraviolet (UV) radiation. This makes them a popular alternative to sunscreen, especially for extended periods in the sun. The tight fit ensures that the fabric remains in place, providing consistent coverage.

Rashguards come in a variety of styles, including long-sleeved and short-sleeved options, as well as different lengths and colors. They are generally easy to care for, requiring simple washing and air-drying.
