RFIDtechnieken, or Radio Frequency Identification techniques, refer to a set of technologies used to identify and track objects wirelessly using radio waves. These systems consist of two main components: a reader (or interrogator) and one or more tags (or transponders) attached to the objects to be tracked. RFID operates by transmitting data through electromagnetic waves, allowing for contactless communication between the reader and the tag.

RFID systems can be categorized based on the frequency band they operate in, which influences their range, data capacity, and cost. Low-frequency (LF) RFID, typically operating around 125–134 kHz, is often used for short-range applications such as animal tracking and access control. High-frequency (HF) RFID, around 13.56 MHz, is commonly used in smart cards and supply chain management due to its balance of range and data capacity. Ultra-high-frequency (UHF) RFID, operating between 860–960 MHz, is widely used in retail and logistics for its longer range and higher data transfer rates.

RFID tags can be passive, active, or battery-assisted passive (BAP). Passive tags rely entirely on the energy transmitted by the reader to power their circuits, making them cost-effective but limiting their range and functionality. Active tags have their own power source, enabling longer ranges and additional features like GPS integration, though they are more expensive. BAP tags use a small battery to assist the tag’s operation while still being powered by the reader’s signal.

Applications of RFID span various industries, including inventory management, access control, asset tracking, and contactless payments. The technology enhances efficiency by automating data collection and reducing manual errors. However, concerns regarding privacy, security, and potential interference with other electronic devices remain areas of ongoing development and regulation.

RFID continues to evolve with advancements in miniaturization, energy efficiency, and data encryption, expanding its role in smart cities, the Internet of Things (IoT), and other emerging technologies.
