Quinqueremes
Quinquereme is a term used for a type of ancient war galley characterized by five rows of oars on each side. The name derives from Latin quinque “five” and remus “oar.” The exact arrangement of rowers and the overall design varied over time and between cultures, but the designation generally indicated a five-oar-bank configuration and a larger hull than earlier triremes.
Design and crew often reflected a substantial manpower requirement. A typical quinquereme carried roughly 250–300 rowers
