Quinquereme
A quinquereme was an ancient type of warship. Its name is thought to derive from the Latin quinque ("five") and remus ("oar"), suggesting a crew of five rowers per vertical section of the ship. However, the precise arrangement of oarsmen is a subject of scholarly debate. The most widely accepted theory proposes that the quinquereme had three levels of oars. The lowest level would have had two rowers per oar, while the two upper levels would have had one rower per oar. This arrangement would result in a total of fifteen rowers for every three vertical sections of oars (2+1+1 = 5), hence the name.
Quinqueremes were developed by the Greeks, likely around the 4th century BCE, and became a dominant warship
These vessels played a crucial role in naval battles of the era, notably during the Punic Wars
