Päätösvapaus

Päätösvapaus refers to the concept of free will, the capacity of agents to choose between different possible courses of action unimpeded. It is a philosophical and psychological notion that has been debated for centuries, exploring the extent to which human actions are self-determined versus predetermined by external factors or internal states.

The debate often centers on the compatibility of free will with determinism, the view that all events, including human cognition, decision, and action, are causally determined by an unbroken chain of prior occurrences. Compatibilists argue that free will and determinism can coexist, suggesting that an action is free if it arises from the agent's own desires and intentions, even if those desires are themselves determined. In contrast, incompatibilists, including libertarians and hard determinists, believe that free will and determinism are mutually exclusive.
