Päivänliljat

Päivänliljat are herbaceous perennial plants belonging to the genus Hemerocallis, commonly known as daylilies in English. They are widely cultivated for their attractive, trumpet-shaped flowers that typically bloom for a single day, though each plant produces numerous buds that open sequentially over a period of weeks.

The genus Hemerocallis originates from East Asia, with species native to China, Korea, and Japan. Wild daylilies are often found in meadows, woodlands, and along roadsides. Modern garden daylilies are largely hybrids, developed through extensive cross-breeding of various species and older cultivars. This breeding has resulted in an astonishing diversity of flower colors, forms, and sizes.

Päivänliljat are known for their hardiness and adaptability, thriving in a wide range of climates and soil conditions. They generally prefer full sun but can tolerate partial shade, especially in hotter regions. The plants form clumps of long, arching leaves that provide attractive foliage throughout the growing season.
