Pyörämallit

Pyörämallit are the different bicycle models offered by manufacturers, or more broadly the distinct wheel and bicycle configurations used in product catalogs and by retailers. In Finnish usage the term refers to complete bicycle concepts that combine geometry, materials, components and intended use into a single model.

Classification and purpose: Common pyörämallit include road bikes optimized for paved surfaces, mountain bikes for off-road riding, gravel and cyclocross models for mixed terrain, and city or commuter bikes for daily use. Touring and endurance models are designed for long distances, while electric-assist (e-bike) variants add motors and batteries. Within a model, manufacturers offer variations such as different frame sizes, tire widths and component levels. Wheel size information is frequently part of the model specification, with standards like 700c (ISO 622), 27.5" (ISO 584) and 26" (ISO 559) still appearing in some markets.

Design, development and production: Pyörämallit are developed through computer-aided design and engineering to balance ride quality, strength and weight. Ergonomic data, intended terrain and durability requirements guide geometry and materials choices. Prototypes are tested and refined, and new model years or updates are commonly released to reflect component advances, regulatory changes or market feedback.

Market and consumer usage: Consumers compare pyörämallit by factors such as geometry, weight, price and component specification. Dealers may offer different builds of the same model or regional availability, and retailers use model names to organize inventory and promotions. The term helps distinguish within-brand lineups during purchasing and discussion.
