Puidupaneel

Puidupaneel is a term for a panel made of wood used to cover interior walls or ceilings. In Estonian, puidupaneel refers to a wood panel used for interior cladding. It includes solid wood panels, veneered panels (a thin layer of hardwood bonded to a less expensive core such as plywood or particleboard), and engineered wood panels with decorative finishes. Panels are usually produced with tongue-and-groove, shiplap, or batten profiles, enabling seamless joints, and can be fixed directly to studs or to a subframe using nails, screws, or adhesive. Finishes range from natural oils and waxes to varnishes, stains, or paint, which influence appearance and moisture resistance.

Used in homes and commercial spaces for walls, ceilings, cabinet facades, and decorative features, puidupaneel provides a warm, natural look and can be selected in various wood species, colors, and thicknesses. Some panels are perforated or acoustically optimized. Benefits include aesthetics, durability, and the possibility of replacing individual panels without disturbing surrounding structures, while drawbacks include sensitivity to humidity and temperature changes, potential shrinkage or expansion, and higher cost than some plaster or drywall solutions. Regular cleaning and occasional refinishing extend life. Sustainable choices include wood from certified forests, reclaimed or responsibly manufactured panels, and minimizing waste in production.
