Puhul

Puhul, also known as the Philippine Eagle or the Philippine Hawk-Eagle, is a critically endangered bird of prey native to the Philippines. It is the national bird of the Philippines and is recognized by its distinctive white head and tail feathers, which contrast with its dark brown body. The puhul is known for its powerful flight and sharp talons, which it uses to catch prey such as monkeys, squirrels, and small deer.

The puhul is a large bird, with males typically measuring around 80-90 cm in length and weighing up to 6.5 kg. Females are slightly smaller, measuring around 75-85 cm in length and weighing up to 5.5 kg. The species is monogamous and builds its nest in tall trees, often using vines and branches to create a sturdy platform. The female lays one or two eggs, which she incubates for about 45 days.

The puhul is threatened by habitat loss due to deforestation, hunting, and the illegal wildlife trade. Conservation efforts are underway to protect the remaining puhul populations, including habitat restoration, anti-poaching measures, and captive breeding programs.
