Psoriática

Psoriática is a term used to describe a person who has psoriasis, a chronic autoimmune disease that causes the rapid buildup of skin cells. This buildup leads to scaling on the skin's surface. Psoriasis is a common skin condition that causes red, itchy, scaly patches, most commonly on the knees, elbows, trunk, and scalp. It is a long-term disease that has no cure.

The appearance of psoriatic skin can vary. Patches can range from small dots to large areas covering the body. They are often itchy and can sometimes be painful. Nail changes are also common, including pitting, discoloration, and thickening of the nails. Some individuals with psoriasis may also experience joint inflammation, a condition known as psoriatic arthritis.

The exact cause of psoriasis is not fully understood, but it is believed to involve a combination of genetic and environmental factors. The immune system mistakenly attacks healthy skin cells, accelerating their growth cycle. Triggers for flare-ups can include stress, infections, certain medications, and skin injuries.

While there is no cure for psoriasis, various treatments are available to manage symptoms and reduce inflammation. These can include topical creams and ointments, phototherapy (light therapy), and systemic medications that affect the entire body. Lifestyle changes, such as stress management and maintaining a healthy diet, can also play a role in managing the condition.
