Prosesseier, often translated as process owner, is a role in organizations responsible for a specific end-to-end business process. The prosesseier holds accountability for the process’s overall performance, alignment with strategy, and value delivery to customers, while the day-to-day management may be carried out by a process manager or process team.

The primary responsibilities of a prosesseier include defining the process scope, objectives, and performance metrics; establishing and maintaining process documentation, standards, and governance; and ensuring the process design supports cross-functional collaboration. They authorize changes to the process design, approve improvement initiatives, and oversee resource and budget allocation related to the process. The prosesseier also ensures compliance with policies, risk management, and appropriate interfaces with other processes and external partners.

In practice, the prosesseier works with related roles such as process managers, process owners for related processes, process analysts, and governance bodies. This structure supports accountability for end-to-end results, while operational optimization may be delegated to others. The role is commonly found within frameworks that emphasize business process management, such as BPM, Lean, Six Sigma, or IT governance models like ITIL.

The process lifecycle typically includes design or redesign, implementation, monitoring, and continuous improvement, with the prosesseier steering alignment to strategic goals.
