Processinghandling is a term used to describe the integrated management of data processing workflows and physical material handling within industrial operations. It covers the synchronization of information systems with automation hardware to optimize production and logistics processes from raw material intake to final shipment.

In manufacturing, processinghandling links process control with material movement, enabling real-time monitoring, quality assurance, and traceability. In warehousing and distribution, it coordinates order processing, picking, packing, and shipping with data streams from sensors, scanners, and RFID tags, improving accuracy and throughput.

Key components include control systems such as PLCs and SCADA; software layers including ERP, MES, and WMS; automation hardware such as conveyors, robotics, and automated storage/retrieval systems; and data interfaces (for example OPC UA, MTConnect, GS1 barcoding). Safety and compliance are integral, including risk assessments, access control, and change management.

Applications span manufacturing execution, logistics optimization, and supply-chain visibility, often enabled by the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) and digital twins that model both processing steps and material flow. Benefits include reduced cycle times, lower labor costs, higher inventory accuracy, improved traceability and quality control, and enhanced safety.
